Creating a will with Free Wills NZ is 100% free. A will is easier when you break it into a few careful decisions. This page shows the simple path from preparing your information to arranging the signing.
1. Decide who is involved
- Choose an executor who can manage the estate.
- Name beneficiaries and backup beneficiaries.
- Record guardianship wishes if you have children.
2. List what matters
- Note property, accounts, vehicles, bank accounts, investments, KiwiSaver, insurance, and personal items.
- Include sentimental gifts and charitable gifts.
- Write down debts or obligations that may affect the estate.
3. Review the risks
Get legal advice if your situation includes a blended family, family disputes, trusts, overseas property, business ownership, relationship property concerns, or questions about capacity.
4. Sign and store it
A will must be in writing, signed by the will-maker, and witnessed by at least two witnesses who are together in the will-maker’s presence. Store the signed will somewhere safe and tell your executor where it is.
